Harrison’s High Potency Superfine is a certified organic, high-nutrition diet developed for small companion birds. Its superfine pellet size is particularly well suited to canaries, finches, budgies, parrotlets and other small birds with delicate beaks.
High Potency formulas are designed for birds with increased nutritional requirements, including birds being converted from seed or another diet, weaning birds, breeding birds and birds that are moulting or particularly active. Harrison’s recommend that birds converting onto their foods are initially fed a High Potency formula for at least 6 months before moving onto an appropriate Adult Lifetime maintenance diet.
Suitable for: canaries, finches, budgies (parakeets), parrotlets and other small companion birds. Cockatiels and lovebirds may also prefer the Superfine pellet size.

When Is High Potency Recommended?
Harrison’s High Potency formulas are intended to provide increased nutritional support at times when a bird has greater dietary requirements.
- Diet conversion: Birds changing from seed or another diet should generally remain on a High Potency formula for at least 6 months before moving onto an appropriate Adult Lifetime formula.
- Weaning: Harrison’s recommend High Potency for at least 6–9 months for weaning birds.
- Breeding: High Potency is recommended for breeding birds.
- Moulting and increased demand: Suitable during moulting and for particularly active birds or other periods where greater nutritional support is required.
Birds with an illness, medical condition or specific nutritional requirement should be fed according to the advice of an avian veterinarian.
How To Feed
- Offer fresh Harrison’s pellets every day rather than continually topping up older food
- Feed as distinct meals where possible to help monitor intake and reduce waste
- Birds may eat freely, with the suggested quantities below used as a general guide
Suggested daily amounts:
- Canary / Finch: approximately 1–1¾g (around 1 teaspoon)
- Budgie / Parrotlet: approximately 1½–3g (around 1–2 teaspoons)
- Cockatiel / Lovebird: approximately 2–5g (around 1½–3 teaspoons)
Individual requirements can vary according to species, size, activity and condition, so monitor your bird’s body condition and seek advice from an avian veterinarian where required.
Fresh Foods
For a balanced daily diet, Harrison’s recommend:
- 75–80% Harrison’s Bird Foods
- 20–25% good-quality vegetables and fruits
Suitable fresh foods can include sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango and papaya.
Additional vitamin or mineral supplements are not normally recommended unless advised by an avian veterinarian.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which birds is Harrison’s High Potency Superfine for?
Harrison’s High Potency Superfine is designed primarily for small companion birds such as canaries, finches, budgies and parrotlets. Its very small pellet size is particularly suitable for birds with small or delicate beaks.
Is High Potency Superfine suitable for converting my bird from seed?
Yes. Harrison’s recommend beginning with a High Potency formula when converting a bird from seed or another diet. Birds should generally remain on High Potency for at least 6 months before moving onto an appropriate Adult Lifetime maintenance formula.
How long should my bird stay on Harrison’s High Potency?
For diet conversion, Harrison’s recommend at least 6 months on a High Potency formula. Weaning birds should generally remain on High Potency for at least 6–9 months. Some birds may require High Potency for longer depending on species, life stage or individual nutritional needs.
Can Harrison’s High Potency Superfine be fed all year?
Yes. High Potency can be used year-round for birds that continue to have increased nutritional requirements. Healthy adult birds without these additional requirements can often move onto an appropriate Harrison’s Adult Lifetime formula after the initial High Potency period.

Harrison’s recommend that around 75–80% of the daily diet is made up of Harrison’s food, with the remaining 20–25% consisting of suitable fresh vegetables and fruits. Additional vitamin or mineral supplements are normally unnecessary unless advised by an avian veterinarian.
How should I store Harrison’s High Potency Superfine after opening?
Keep the food in its original bag, squeeze out excess air before resealing and store it in a cool, dry place. The UK distributor recommends using the contents within 8 weeks of opening. Refrigeration after opening can also help maintain freshness.
