Unlike traditional thermostats, the HabitSat High Range Pulse Proportional Thermostat offers a far more advanced functionality. It excels at accurately regulating heaters and can handle a maximum load of 600 watts with ease.
Here’s how it works:
Set the desired temperature on the dial.
Initially, when the enclosure and heater are cold, the heater operates at full power.
As the enclosure approaches the set temperature, the thermostat reduces the power to pulses.
The duration of each pulse (the time the heater is on and off) depends on the enclosure temperature.
In the early stages of approaching the set temperature, the “on” pulses are longer, and the “off” time is shorter.
As the desired temperature is nearly reached, the “on” pulses become shorter until the cycle stabilises at approximately 50% on and 50% off.
If the heater capacity matches the enclosure requirements, the cycle will remain stable at this point.
The pulse thermostat design ensures that the heater only receives enough power to maintain the set temperature. As there’s no need to start the heater from cold repeatedly, this significantly extends the heater element’s lifespan and provides a safer environment for your animals, as the heater rarely, if ever, operates at full power.
